Our Best Oat Milk Recipe

oat milk recipe

Our oat milk recipe is here! Oat milk and matcha together are great, so this week I made myself an oat milk matcha latte.  I found oat milk the other day while searching for a healthy alternative milk. There are tons of milk substitutes out there, but guess what, they don’t foam up! And if you are like me, you need your froth.

get the kids cooking

This is also one of my kids favorite cooking jobs. Since they could hold a pitcher, they’ve made nut and oat milks. Not only is it fun for them, but it teaches them that they can cook too. Kids who cook are healthier and gain valuable motor and life skills.

yummy foamy drinks keep my winter warm

Let s get back to why I’m currently obsessed with oat milk though. It’s because I love warm drinks and I’m usually cold. Therefore, I spend way too much time coming up with ways to warm up. Besides my favorite LL Bean blanket, oat milk matcha lattes are my new fave. I also love rooibos tea oat lattes, English breakfast oat lattes, and hot chocolate oat lattes.

how can one survive without a frother?

This all began two years ago, when I traveled from lovely Oregon to Pennsylvania to visit family. Of course, I brought my small hand held electric frother with me, because that’s how I roll.

Unfortunately, after two weeks on vacation, I was so excited to get back home that I left my frother behind! This was followed by numerous phone attempts to my in-laws over the next two years to send my wonderful frother back to Oregon. Yes, I’m that frugal. I waited two years before giving in and buying my dream frother, a Breville Milk Cafe Forther. And I wish I’d caved sooner, because it totally changed my warm beverage experience.

Oat Milk Matcha Latte

As a result, I thought I’d share my oat milk matcha latte recipe. I used matcha to this recipe for it’s health benefits and amazing flavor. If you’ve never tasted matcha, give it a try. It’s huge on antioxidants, it contains 137x the antioxidants of brewed green tea, has tons of manganese, and L-theanine. Instead of drinking coffee, matcha can give you energy and better focus without the jitters of caffeine.

Oat Milk Matcha Latte

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp sunflower or soy lecithin ((optional))
  • 1 tbsp matcha powder
  • 1 tsp honey ((optional))
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract ((optional))
  1. Start by making your oat milk. Combine oats, water, and lecithin. Blend for 1 minute or more.

Then, using a strainer or cheesecloth, pour milk into a small saucepan or frother cup. Heat milk while adding vanilla and honey. If heating up on stovetop, whisk frequently until warm enough for your taste.

If using an electric handheld brother, froth up until you’re satisfied.

Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!

Lecithin helps hold milk together and prevents separating. If you can’t find lecithin, just leave it out and shake your milk to mix it all up before using it.
