After having baby, postpartum healing herbs can make all the difference. Down there is not the part of our bodies that we necessarily want to pay much attention to after giving birth, but a postpartum wash can really help! The thing that lots of women love after birth was a postpartum wash. It not only feels amazing, but the wash will help the outer vaginal area heal much faster.

Can’t  I just ignore it all?

Very well, you could ignore the part of your body that may feel as if a truck just drove through it. But it’s so important to give it care too, it’s been through so much. Pamper yourself and make your postpartum wash to help the healing process along. It also feels great and refreshing.

I don’t have time to go herb shopping!

No, you really don’t have time to go shopping. You’re job is to relax and be with your baby. So making your postpartum wash is a great thing to do while planning for your birth. And if you don’t get it done beforehand, it’s the perfect job for your partner or other family member. Curious and caring friends and family will be happy to run an errand for some herbs to make your wash. These herbs can be found at your local co-op, health food store in the bulk herb section, or ordered online. It’s so easy to Make a Postpartum Wash

If you know how to make tea, you can make a postpartum wash. It’s possibly the easiest thing you’ll do since you had your baby, so go make some wash. I like to keep the herbs all premixed in a mason jar and then take out a scoop when I run out of wash. Make your tea as instructed below, strain into a jar to cool, and then pour into a peri bottle. Peri bottles might be your new best friend after you try one. like these because of their conventient angle. You can also ask your OB or midwife for one, get one at the drug store, or simply order online. We like these because of their convenient angle.

When should I use my wash?

Use your wash every time you go to the bathroom. Just give your postpartum herbal wash a try and feel the healing begin! It’s a disinfecting cleanser and aids in tissue repair. As a result, you’ll find that your tissues will heal faster and are less inflamed. After using your wash for a few weeks, you’ll have more time to enjoy being a new mom, knowing that you’re healing well.

  • 1/4 cup red raspberry leaf
  • 1/4 cup plantain leaf
  • 1/4 cup yarrow
  • 1/4 cup sea salt

  2. Boil two quarts of water and add one cup of mixed herbs. Reduce heat to very low and allow to steep for 15 minutes to an hour. Let cool, then strain herbs into a mason jar that can be sealed. Keep in fridge until you need to refill your peri bottle.
  3. When ready to use, transfer your healing postpartum wash into a peri-bottle or spray bottle and keep it by the toilet. After each time you use the bathroom, gently squirt tea onto outer vaginal area to disinfect and heal the perineum. You can use warm tea, but watch temperature is not too hot. Additionally, make sure the perineal area is not irritated by temperature or wash. Change out spray often to keep it fresh or keep it in the fridge.
